Adding the Google Maps Static API and restricting the IP addresses that can use this, helps to improve security.
Part One – Enable the ‘Maps Static API’
- Login to Google Cloud Console https://console.cloud.google.com/
- Click on ‘APIs and Services’.
- Click on ‘Library’.
- Search for ‘maps static’ and select ‘Maps Static API’.
- Enable the API.
Part Two – Restrict API Key
- Go to ‘Keys and Credentials’ – https://console.cloud.google.com/google/maps-apis/credentials
- Select your API key (you likely only have one) and select ‘Edit API Key’ from the 3-dot menu.
- Select ‘IP addresses’ as the restriction, then click ‘add’.
- Enter your server IP address (which we have sent you) and click ‘Done’.
- Under ‘API Restrictions’ you can either choose ‘Don’t restrict key’, or for additional security you can choose to ‘Restrict key’. If you select ‘Restrict key’ please ensure all enabled API’s are allowed to use the key. (Please contact us for further details if you wish to restrict the key.)
- Finally, save the changes.
- Now send an email to websites@intelligentretail.co.uk to confirm you have completed the steps above and we will make the necessary changes our end.
