Discount Schemes

Connect supports a variety of discount schemes to enable you to provide your customers with different types of offers. This helpsheet will explain each of the schemes and how to set them up.
Note: It is advised that discount schemes are created in the Training Application first so that they may be tested in the Training Till. Discount scenarios can become complex and may cause issues with live till transactions.

Accessing The Discount Schemes Window

From the ‘Back Office’ click on the ‘Discounts’ icon or, select ‘Tools’ and then ‘Discounts’.

Click ‘Discounts’ to open the ‘Discount Schemes’ window.

Creating a New Discount Scheme

Click the ‘New’ button in the top left hand corner of the ‘Discount Schemes’ Window.

The ‘Discount Scheme’ window will be displayed.

Enter in the ‘Description’ of the discount scheme you wish to offer i.e. ‘Summer Sale – 10% off’

Select the ‘Offer Start’ and ‘Offer End’ date of the discount scheme using the drop down arrows.
Note: If the date range is in the past the scheme will not be active.

Select the discount ‘Scheme Type’ from the drop down menu;

‘Article Based Scheme’
Apply a discount to an article or group of articles.
‘Range Based Scheme’
Apply a discount to a range of articles
‘Transaction Based Scheme’
Apply a discount to a whole transaction

Select the ‘Brochure’.
Note: ‘Active Stock’ means the discount will be applied to articles in store. ‘Web Brochure’ means the discount will be applied to articles online.

If the discount scheme is ‘Article Based’ or ‘Range Based’, articles to be included in the scheme can be selected from the right hand side of the ‘Discount Scheme’ window.
This section shows the top level classifications for the brochure specified in the ‘Brochure’ field (Active Stock or Web Brochure). The groups can be expanded by clicking on the plus sign next to the group or by right clicking on the group with the cursor and choosing one of the ‘Expand’ options in the list.
Tick an item to include it in the discount scheme and all items within it.
Note: Ensure that the drop down menu in the top right hand corner is set to view ‘All items’ and not ‘Ticked Only’ to view all the items in the Brochure.

Select the ‘Activation Type’ applicable to your discount scheme from the drop down options.
Note: The options available will vary depending on the ‘Scheme Type’ that has been selected;
‘Always Active’
This option can only be applied to ‘Article Based Schemes’. Once set up, the discount will always be active within the ‘Offer Start’ and ‘Offer End’ date on articles that have been chosen to be included in the discount scheme.
‘Article Quantity Activated’
This option can be applied to ‘Article’ and ‘Range Based Schemes’. When ‘Article Quantity Activated’ is selected an ‘Activate When’ field will appear. Enter the number of items that need to be purchased to activate the discount scheme.
‘Enter Promotion Code’
A promotional code can be used by the consumer to activate a discount for an ‘Article’ or ‘Transaction Based Scheme’. Enter the code in the ‘Promotional Code’ field that will activate the discount scheme.  Consumers can use this code multiple times.  In store, this code must start with an ‘M’ and be 11 characters long e.g. ‘M1234567890’. Web promotional codes can be any length (for example 10%OFF) and don’t have to start with ‘M’. To active the discount on the website an incremental upload is required. 
‘Enter Promotion Code (Single Use)’
A one off promotional code can be used by consumers to activate a discount for an ‘Article’ or ‘Transaction Based Scheme’. Enter the code in the ‘Promotional Code’ field that will activate the discount scheme. Consumers can use this code only once. In store, this code must start with an ‘M’ and be 11 characters long e.g. ‘M1234567890’.  Web promotional codes can be any length (for example 10%OFF) and don’t have to start with ‘M’. To active the discount on the website an incremental upload is required.  On the website, customers need to log in first to use this code.
‘Transaction Price Activated’
When a consumer spends the value entered into the ‘Activation When’ field or more, the transaction will be discounted.

Enter the ‘Offer Type’ applicable to your Discount Scheme.
Note: The options available will vary depending on the ‘Scheme Type’ that has been selected;
Discount Percentage
Enter the percentage that the items will be discounted by. This can be applied to either ‘Article’, ‘Range’ or ‘Transaction Based’ Schemes.
Fixed Price
Enter the value that the article(s) will be sold for with this discount offer. A ‘Fixed Price’ can be applied to an ‘Article’ or ‘Range Based Scheme’
Get’n’Free
This discount is available for ‘Article Based’ and ‘Range Based’ schemes’. Items are given away for free when a set number of items have been purchased i.e. buy 2 get 1 free or, can be price activated i.e. spend £50 and get an item free.
Money Off Next Purchase
This type of discount is available to ‘Article Based Schemes’.
This offer will generate a voucher for the consumer to get money off their next purchase.
Money Off
This type of discount is available to ‘Range’, ‘Transaction’ and ‘Article’ Based Schemes.
This discount scheme will take money off on every transaction or depending how much the consumer must spend to gain to get money off.
Multiply Loyalty Points
This discount is available for ‘Transaction Based’, ‘Range Based’ and ‘Article Based’ ’schemes’.
This discount scheme will add points on every transaction or depending how much a consumer must spend to gain the points.

Select the ‘Scheme Visibility’. This can be set to either ‘Show On Receipt’ or ‘Do not Show On Receipt’.
Note: This setting determines whether the discount description is displayed on the till receipt.

The ‘Receipt Advert Text’ field is optional.
Enter the text for the discount you wish to advertise. This text will appear on the top of all receipts printed within the ‘Advert Start’ and ‘Advert End’ date. This allows you to advertise a discount prior to it taking place.
Note: Only one advert can be displayed on a receipt at a time.

If the ‘Receipt Advert Text’ has been populated, enter the date on which you would like to start advertising the discount in the ‘Advert Start’ field. This is defaulted to today’s date.
The ‘Advert End’ date is defaulted to yesterday’s date to ensure the discount remains inactive. Enter the date on which you would like to stop advertising the discount.
Note: The date can be typed in the format, DD/MM/YYYY or by clicking on the drop down button and selecting a date from the calendar.

Article Based Schemes

An Article Based Discount Scheme enables you to apply discount to articles or a group of articles via a sales transaction. This could be for a particular promotion or sale for a particular date range. Article Based Discount schemes can also be applied to articles being sold via your Web Brochure.

In the ‘Activated When’ field, enter the number of items that the consumer is required to purchase for the discount to be activated.
Enter the quantity of items that will be given for free as part of the discount scheme in the ‘Get’ field.
The ‘Offered Item’ will default to ‘Same as item purchased’. If the item to be given for free is different, click on the three dots and select the item from the brochure then click ‘Add’.

In the ‘Activated When’ field, enter the number of items that the consumer is required to purchase for the discount to be activated.
Enter the value of the voucher in the ‘Voucher Amount’ field. This is the amount off the consumer’s next purchase.
Enter the number of months the voucher is valid for in the ‘Voucher Valid’ field.

Range Based Schemes

The Range Based Scheme is an article activated discount scheme which enables you to select a range of articles which the consumer can purchase and get either a discount percentage, a fixed price or get an item free when a set quantity is purchased i.e. Buy 5 for £5 or Buy 2 get 1 Free. Range Based Schemes can also be applied to articles sold via your web brochure.

Impact to the Till and Website

When an article is added to any discount scheme a scrolling banner will appear within the article details in the Active Stock, Multichannel Centre and ALU window.

The discount description will appear under the article in the transaction window on the till when the article is selected and the ‘Activation Type’ has been met.

When articles that are included in an ‘Article Based Scheme’ are added to a transaction on the till, a scrolling banner will appear in the transaction window bringing to your attention the discount scheme available.

When articles that are included in a ‘Transaction Based Scheme’ are added to a till transaction, the discount will be displayed below the transaction window when the ‘Activation Type’ has been met.

If the discount scheme is for Web Brochure articles the discount offer will be displayed on the product / category page.
